Pacific Beach: Party Hearty Whether you're shopping the Pink Zone and Closet, watching college football at one of the three dozen sports bars, surfing the pier, or eating lobster tacos at World Famous, Pacific Beach is a 7/24 frat party. For those who need a bit of serenity and a few peaceful zzzs, there's no better place to stay than my favorite atoll. Step into paradise at the Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa overlooking Mission Bay, San Diego's best playground. Joggers with strollers, tandem bikers and windsurfers whip around the bay and boardwalk while you gaze from your deck, latte in hand. As always, Chef Alaistar Revelle's tasty fusion recipes rock, especially the Sunday brunch complete with sushi, oysters, eggs Benedict, applewood smoked bacon and decadent petit fours. Best of show is the addition in the last two years of a world-clas spa, a sensational relaxing experience so Zen from the billowing canopies and chaises in the lounge area complete with ayurvedic teas to the therapists. Meditative massages, facials, body wraps, VIchy shower, hydrotherapy and fresh-air yoga and Pilates complete the anti-aging effort, and the lotions and potions used both in the spa and the rooms are heavenly. My favorites were the island stone massage, botanical vitality wrap and the babassu milk bath. |
